This paper had carried on the investigation and research for understanding level of elliptical of high school students through the questionnaire investigation mainly. The author was based on the theory of SOLO classification evaluation theory and analyzed understanding of elliptical of high school students from four dimensions, for example the definition of elliptical, standard equation of elliptical, simple geometric properties of elliptical and the application of elliptical. The author had came to the conclusion though studying about understanding of level regular of the elliptical of students, the following conclusions:1. The students have different understanding for four dimensions of the elliptical. They have similar level of understanding for the level of the three dimensions, for example definition of the elliptical, standard equation of ellipse and simple geometric properties of elliptical. The student has the low level of understanding of the application of elliptic.2. Some students have not enough emphasis on definition of elliptic and ignore the defined requirements points of the "plane". They can’t grasp on the relationship between the 2a and 2c. For this problem, grade two has more serious problem than grade three.3. Students are fear for computing. Some students just list formula, but they do not give operation process. Some students even give operation process, but the result is wrong.4. Students have the certain difficulty in combination with number form when they solute the relevant problem of elliptical. Students have poor conversion ability of mathematical language.5. The students have understand each dimension of elliptical in the superficial and have not enough deep understanding of knowledge. Some students just are blind to paraphrase formula when they are solving the problem and neglect the understanding of the nature of knowledge.6.Different grade students have certain differences for understanding of elliptical, but the difference is not significant. The understanding level of different dimensions for grade three is higher than that of grade two, and the differences of this dimension is the application of ellipse. The influence of gender on level of understand of elliptical is not significant.In this paper, the author had carried on the statistical analysis about test answer situation of the understanding elliptical horizontal of high school students. According to the analysis results, the paper gave more targeted elliptical teaching suggestions. The study enriched the conic (ellipse) research for high school mathematics in China and provided a certain theoretical and practical support for teaching reform for ellipse.
