Writing teaching has always been very important in senior middle school English Teaching. The marks for writing take up about 21% in NMET English paper. At present, especially in rural areas where the teaching conditions are not good, the students‘ English writing is quite bad. Many students can‘t write several complete sentences, and some copy from reading comprehension or cloze test,or even write nothing. There are many reasons why the students‘ writing is bad. One important reason among them is that many teachers seldom guide their students to do pre-writing. For the students, they rarely prepare much for their English writing. Therefore, their writing products can‘t meet the requirements and are in a mess illogically. In order to solve the problem, the author applies Concept Maps to English pre-writing teaching to cultivate the students‘ writing interest and improve their writing skills.Concept Maps,based on Ausubel’s theory, was put forward by Novak, which are cognitive tools for organizing and representing knowledge. As a strategy for studies, it can enhance meaningful learning, cooperative learning and creative learning, consequently which can help students learn to study. For students, Concept Maps can combine the new and old knowledge, construct the knowledge network and condense Knowledge structures, so students can master knowledge on the whole. The software that the author uses in the experiment is INSPIRATION9.0. This study is theoretically based on constructivist learning and schema. The subjects are the 110 students from two classes in senior two of He Lin No.1 Senior High School. The experiment lasts for one semester and some experimental instruments such as questionnaire, pre-test and post-test are used in the process of the experiment to verify the hypothesis through the experiment. The experiment is carried out according to the following writing styles: narrative writing, argumentative writing, expository writing and practical writing.After experimental data was analyzed, The results show that the writing score has been significantly improved. More proper conjunctions are used in the process of the writing, so the article is more coherent. This fully shows that the English pre-writing teaching guided by Concept Maps is feasible and effective.
