Subject Standard for Senior Mathematics by Ministry of Education of PRC makes “probability statistics” as required and elective content being indexed in high school mathematics curriculum, the curriculum content and outline version of probability compared with larger changes, the content relative to expand and more emphasis on mathematics and real life. In this context, research on whether students are interested in probability statistics or not; what are their learning difficulties in probability statistics; discuss the learning methods and teaching strategies of probability statistics in high school, in order to provide certain reference to the new curriculum reforming and high school teachers’ maths teaching. This study focuses on the problems which may exist in high school students’ cognitive level of probability and their learning. I have adopted literature analysis, questionnaire survey, interview and case study in my thesis. Based on Subject Standard for Senior Mathematics and literature collection, curriculum analysis, I compiled the test paper and questionnaires. The test object is 363 high school science students in Nanning, Guangxi province. According to the students answer to the test and questionnaire, the author mainly done as the follows: firstly, research on the present situation of high school students’ cognitive level of probability statistics.Followed by studying the gender difference in students’ cognitive level of probability statistics. Finally, research on different levels of students — good students, ordinary students and poor students’ cognitive level of probability statistics. The findings of this study showed, the senior high school students’ cognitive level of probability statistics is good on the whole, the cognitive level decreases with the statistics and probability. Second, gender difference in high students’ probability statistical thinking features does not exist significant differences. Finally, good students, ordinary students and poor students’ cognitive level of probability statistics have great difference from each other. The last part of the thesis is conclusion and suggestions, hope these suggestions can provide reference for the implementation of the new curriculum throughout the country, and be helpful to the teachers’ practical teaching.
