English writing is one of the significant parts in the teaching of English and an important skill in English learning. It can both help students to fully grasp the basic vocabulary, basic grammar, and improve the language proficiency of students(Zhu Hongguang, 2011). For the effects of the recitation on the teaching of English writing, Nick Ellis(2002), Professor of psychology at the University of Wales has pointed out that language learning is a continuous process of accumulation paradigm, and mass stored sample words can help to use the language fluently. Professor Deng Liming(2007) also pointed out that recitation input can help increase the required vocabulary and the mastery and application of language blocks for Chinese students’ output on writing. At the beginning of the internship, the writer of this paper got a random sample of 150 papers after one monthly examination in No. 16 Middles School in Zhengzhou. Through the analysis of the compositions of these papers, the writer found that their average score is 6.18 points(out of 15 points). The problems of their writing are mainly concentrated on vocabulary, grammar and structure. In order to try to improve their writing scores, the writer used the teaching experimentation to investigate the application of recitation to the teaching of English writing on the basis of Krashen’s input and output hypothesis. This paper aims to answer two main questions:(1) What are the main difficulties with junior school students in their English writing?(2) What are the major changes with their English writing(vocabulary, grammar, text structure) after the application of recitation? The subjects of this experiment are 103 students from Grade Seven, No. 16 Middle School. 51 students are divided into the experimental class, 52 students are divided into the control class. All of them are taught by the writer of this paper and this experiment takes 20 weeks. During this time, the control class students accepted normal teaching and learning while the students of experimental class should recite besides learning the materials in accordance with the requirements of the teachers. The reciting materials are mainly reading texts and model essays of each unit. The writer would strengthen the supervision of the students of experimental class on their reciting and test their reciting results by the forms of retelling, dictation, parodies, Chinese to English and mutual self-change. In order to analyze the experimental results, the writer carried out two writing tests in two classes for the statistical analysis of the data obtained results by using SPSS(22.0) software. The final results shows:(1) The main difficulties with junior school students in their English writing are about spelling errors, syntax errors, the poor paragraph layout and so on.(2) After the application of recitation on English writing, firstly, the experimental class students’ spelling error rate is below the control students’; Secondly, the experimental students’ utilization and accuracy of vocabulary and grammar are higher than the control students’; Thirdly, the experimental students pay more attention to the text structure and the richness of their compositions. To sum up, the level of students’ English writing can be developed through the application of recitation. This paper contains five chapters. The first chapter is research background which mainly introduces the requirements of the English Curriculum Standard of Compulsory of Education on the English writing, analyzes the present situations of junior students’ English writing and clarify the background, motivations and significances of this thesis. Chapter three is research design, it writes about research questions and objectives, research subjects, research procedure and instruments and data collection. And the last chapter is conclusion, which mainly answers the questions of this research and points the limitations and recommendations for this research.
