The paper focuses upon an empirical research in primary English teaching by means of game playing which is designed in terms of the communicative principles. Language learning is not easy(Wright, 1984), especially for primary learners whose cognitive capacity, learning style in learning English is underdevelopment. Though games have been adopted to arouse learners’ interest accordingly, more games in primary English class lay too much stress on fun instead of helping meet required teaching objectives as they are in shortage of a series of scientific teaching concepts. Therefore, the paper tried to explore some available teaching process, such as game playing directed by a scientific teaching theory of CA, which conforms to the language learning requirements in the NECS, so as to be helpful to realize the teaching objectives in primary English. In this research, an experiment has been designed to carry out in a class of Grade 5, in XX Primary School. In the experiment, games have been designed in accordance with the teaching objectives in primary English class under CA to organize the learning for one semester. And then together with some literature researches, questionnaire, classroom observation, and tests which were employed to find out the effects that were able to bring to primary English course. The final results demonstrate that game teaching based on CA has significance and practicability for primary English course. The way to apply CA to game teaching and the way of game teaching based on CA to influence primary English course are also shown. Besides, this research gives some implications for game teaching.
