The techniques in returning of serve, which consist a main part of tennis, is the first step by turning defenses into attack. Apparently they seem like a defensive technology, but if used correctly, they look more like a pair of offensive weapons, playing a vital role in winning the game. The techniques in returning of serve, however, it is quite easy to be ignored by people, no matter in the professional training or amateur tennis enthusiasts, practice is always short compared with other skills. This research using the methods of documentation, expert interview, video observation, experiment, mathematical statistics, analyzed the techniques in returning of serve of six male college athletes in Northwest A&F University high level tennis team biomechanically. Mainly through the method of the experimental study of biomechanics and three-dimensional high speed photography, we filmed their actions of receiving an outside corner flat serve in the right service court, and analyzed the obtained motion to get the kinematics of the technical indicators. Finally, we can get the main techniques in returning of serve, which improve it to a scientific quantitative level. All for a better guide to tennis daily training.Study the following conclusions:1、The techniques in returning of serve takes five stages of movement, each proportion of them in the total time is11%,32%,18%,19%,18%. A simply summary for quick preparation, fully Anticipation, rapid starting, racket back in time and accurately hit the ball.2、The preparation will be located in the bottom line, close to the location of the singles sideline extension cord, share an equal chance both forehand and backhand; Hitting hand’s and non-hitting hand’s grip should be connect to their forehand and backhand technology with forehand grip and backhand grip; Body posture keeps the feet distance2.74times the shoulder width, knee flexion is close to150°leading to45%relative gravity center. Ensure that the body is relatively stable without loss of motor, thus accurate predictions.3、Anticipation, athletes began to judge after0.05seconds when the server threw the ball to leave, and change the body’s gravity center and position, at the meantime they determine serve type and line, then complete the starting through the observation of the server action details.4、In the quick starting, athletes began a the split step0.29seconds after the server threw the ball to the highest point. Feet apart into an open stance or half open stance at the distance of2.24times shoulder width. Split step produced muscle stretch reflexes and increase lower limbs stretching force directly.5、In the racket back stage, players complete a shoulder turn to take the racket back in an average of169°. Small action wins more time. Feet keeps open stance or half open stance for quickly return after a stroke.6、In hitting phase, athletes hit the ball by pushing and moving forward initiatively to speed up the shot and improve the quality of the hitting the same time. The center of gravity moved forward an average of14cm when finish hitting. The racket swing from back to up-forward can improve the success rate of return. With the quantitative standard above, we may lead the practice of the returning serve to a higher level, and improve the receiving technology.
