In the second language acquisition process, there has been a relativelycomplete native language system in the learner’s mind which influences thelearner’s second language acquisition. This influence is called negativetransfer of native language. Native language transfer is an undeniablephenomenon. Native language transfer, especially negative transfer of nativelanguage is always concerned by language researchers and teachers. Writingis one of the skills of junior high school students which reflect theircomprehensive language knowledge. It is the reflection of students’ languagecommunication level. There has always been the trace of native languagenegative transfer in the high school students’ English writing. The nativelanguage negative transfer has become the main obstacle of the students inimproving their English writing. This thesis is on the basis of languagetransfer theory, contrastive analysis theory and error analysis theory,combined with previous research achievements; it researches the Chinesenegative transfer in high school students’ English writing. Through classifyingand analyzing the errors, it tries to find out the origin of the errors. The aim ofthe research is to reduce the influence of the Chinese negative transfer to thelowest and look for more effective teaching methods of English writing toimprove the high school students’ English writing capability accordingly.This article introduces the essence, definition, and types of transfer, andthen reviews the domestic and foreign research about the influence of nativenegative transfer in English writing. What follows is the theoretical basis andthe research design which contains the aim,the object,the methods and theprocedures of the study. Then the errors resulting from Chinese negativetransfer in the students’ composition samples are classified and analyzed infive aspects which are substance errors, lexical errors, grammatical errors, syntactic errors and culture errors. The typical examples of every error arepresented and analyzed to points out that the errors are caused by thedifferences between Chinese and English. The thesis concludes that the juniorhigh school students are in the primary stage of English learning and they lackproper English language environment, so there must be the interference ofChinese in their English writing. Therefore, the teacher should treat the errorsproperly and help the students overcome the interference of Chinese in theirEnglish writing through effective teaching methods.
