Along with the continuous advance of times, English as the most widely used communicative tool gains more and more attention. Meanwhile the cultivation of learners’comprehensive proficiency in applying English, especially listening and speaking skills has become a focus of the society. However, the traditional English teaching has long adopted a "cramming" way of lecturing in which teachers instill into the knowledge to the learners and learners receive passively. Less interaction between the teacher and students can been seen during the instruction, let alone to use the target language in practice. As a result, most of the learners still cannot understand others nor convey themselves after years of English learning. The "deaf-mute English" is apparently commonplace in nowadays. So we have to explore more reasonable and effective ways to promote the learners’ capabilities of English listening and speaking.Over the past four decades, plenty of scientific researches have proved that the interactive teaching method has entered the mature stage. In the interactive teaching, teachers have to design interactive activities in response to specific content requirements carefully. Under the teacher’s aid, all the students take an active part in the discussions and communications. The teacher and learners jointly complete the teaching and learning in a relaxing atmosphere. The author is convinced that by using various activities, this method can provide learners with greater access to practice the language. This reflects a new educational idea which takes the students as the body of the whole class so that their listening and speaking skills can make a balanced development.Through the introduction of interactive teaching method and its application in English listening and speaking teaching in senior high, this thesis aims to probe into the current state and difficulties of implementing this teaching method and verify it not only helps improve learners’ listening and speaking skills but also benefits their spirit of collaboration.To author selects two classes (Class3and Class4, Grade one) in No.25Middle School in Tianjin as experimental groups. The interactive teaching model is applied to both classes. The major instruments for this study are questionnaire and interview.Based on the analysis and discussion of experimental results, it has further justified that interactive teaching method can effectively stimulate students’ interest in listening and promote their linguistic input and output. The study is conducted in the hope of bringing some useful references for the advancement of listening and speaking teaching in high school.
