New curriculum reform requires more attention to strengthen the cultivation of students’ learning interest. Inspiring and cultivating students’ learning interest in science and engineering, will improve students’ learning enthusiasm and motivation, which can help students build confidence and improve the quality of education in science and engineering. Education quality improvement leads to science and technology progress whice provides adequate human resources.improve the comprehensive competitiveness in China in the world.Teachers should develop the methods to excitated students STEM learing interest and foster it. This study is derived from a survey on multinational learning interese in STEM r students in Indiana University.This study is mainly in the form of questionnaire, to investigate the following questions:(1) When do students mainly begin have interest in STEM?(2) What are the main factors that afftecs students’ forming and persisting in learning interest?(3) Does it has gender differences about factors of learning interest? This study shows that the time when students initially get interested in science and engineering is mainly in primary and middle schools, especially elementary school. There are many factors that can influence student’s learning interest in science and engineering, but the most important is the teacher books or magazines. When students have interest, it also has a lot of factors which influence their persistence. In the junior stage, the main factor is parents/guardians and games.However, in senior stage the main factor is the teacher as well as research experience. Additionally, there are gender differences in persisting learning interst. Female studenst are mainly affected by the teacher, and there are more equal factors on male persistence in learing interest, including teachers parents, and friends, or even sicentists. From different factors, the author put forward the improving suggestions to foster and improve students’ learning interes on STEM.
