Unit teaching focuses on understanding a subject, and expanding the learning experience with a purpose. The theme in senior high school English textbooks as the main framework is arranged, so prominent themes for classroom teaching is a teaching mode about teaching and learning, with strong characteristics of interactive. As for teachers, this is a kind of mode, taking inspiration as the main way, to get across the knowledge and skills, methods and ways to the quality of different learners, and thus to promote the teaching. For.students, first of all, on the premise of fully understanding the subject spirit, certain conditions and the expected goals given by the instructor, students improve their writing ability, in the study of related issues in the process of seeking expression and implementation.In this study, unit teaching model is applied to the English writing teaching of senior high school, in order to transform basic knowledge and skills, emotional attitudes and values into a theme and related issues. Learners can carry out a series of writing activities independently or cooperatively around the unit theme or theme concept map, under the guidance of teachers. To test this hypothesis, this study adopts questionnaire, interview and experimental methods. New Senior English for China Student’s book as the teaching material, the freshmen of Tianshui No.l middle school as the research object. Firstly determining the experimental class and control class, in experimental class the teacher take theme unit teaching method, and traditional teaching method is adopted in control class.On the basis of a detailed experimental design and a scientific data analysis, I arrive at the following conclusions:Based on theme unit teaching, optimizing the way of language input, increasing the amount of language input, not only can improve the students’English writing level, but also can improve the length of composition, perfect the content of composition, enrich the vocabulary and grammar of composition, and increase the Syntactic complexity.In addition, according to the results of the research, the author suggest theme unit teaching can lead to improving students’writing ability by confirming the theme vocabulary and sentence, learning them in contexts and drawing the concept map and then using them in different situations when learning a text or other parts of unit. In writing teaching, teachers should attach importance to the function of text, carry on writing training based on textbook, in addition, language input such as extracurricular reading materials and exercises provide supplementary role.
