Since the 1960 s or the 1970 s, it has been realized that traditional teaching methods in writing is insufficient for both teachers and students. Then Process Approach Writing has been put forward by some educationalists in western country. Among them, Wallace Douglas, a respectable professor from Northwestern University says:” writing is a process. It is the particular writing methods which consists writing that should be taught(Deng Liming, 2003)”. For a moment this proposition has been tested by more than one linguists and educationalists. As a representative of them, Flower& Hayes has ever said:” The writing process is so complicated, targeted and recurrent behavior. The duty of teachers is to create a comparatively free, comfortable, and enjoyable environment for students to make continuous progress in the writing and improving process in order to produce better compositions.”On the basis of cognitive psychology theory and basic theory on constructivism, the significance of my paper---Process Writing emphasizes that in the writing process, students are the center and they should be mobilized as much as possible to take their initiative and positive willingness to join it. It must be admitted that pre-knowledge is very important, but what’s more important is the mutual communication and study between teacher and student, student and student. After that, students’ self-feedback is necessary as well. The performance and behavior in the writing process should be paid more attention. Through pre-writing, drafting, and revising these three steps, writing can be made and processed at many different levels to have a better outcome. This is an endless progress. Process Writing Approach Methods means such a complicated mental process including activities, thinking, creation and circulation. That is to say, it is a flexible and dynamic circle process, not a simple rigid lining activity.The paper aims at exploring the actual outcome and application of Process Writing Methods in English classes of middle school. Through the systemic demonstration about some problems and actual necessity in English writing, there comes a analysis of the basic theory under Process Writing Methods and a real experimental survey in which there are two classes from Dalian Yuwen Middle School for four months’ chase experiment. It proves the results that Process Writing Approach focuses on improving students’ writing ability and in writing process guided by Process Writing Approach, students’ autonomous capacity and thinking pattern are stimulated by the willingness to cooperate and communicate with others. It improves students’ mental models, enhance their humanities, and pave a new road in improving students’ writing ability.
