Since the independence in 1961, Nyerere government had regarded adult education as one of the important pillar of national social-economic. With the development of social-economic, the adult education also got further development. For over 50 years, though there are many problems, Tanzania has accumulated many successful experiences in the development of adult education. Summarize the experiences and lessons of Tanzania can provide enlightenments to the development of adult education in our country.Literature method, historical analysis and comparative research will be used in this paper. This dissertation consists of five parts. With the analysis of research background, the introduction part puts forward the topic of study, defines the core concept, sets up research approaches, and makes a brief analysis of research findings both at home and abroad. The second part focus on the historical development of adult education in Tanzania by stages mainly from Nyerere period and Post-Nyerere period. Meanwhile, summarizes the main characteristics of this stage. The third part discuss the current situation of adult education development from the aspects of management organization institutions, policies and regulations, the main programs and the financing resources. The fourth part concludes some successful experience including prevent people return to illiteracy, end the new generation of illiteracy; perfecting the financing mechanism to ensure adult programmes succeed in; to carry out a variety of continue education program, covering different levels people. However, some existing problems such as the budget allocation is not reasonable, gender’s inequality and low level of adult education teachers are urgent to be solved. Finally, based on above research adult education development in Tanzania, this paper provides reference for the development of Chinese adult education.
