Formulaic language is the general definition of ready-made language structures, which can be referred to the common linguistic phenomenon in the acquisition process. Formulaic language can be stored and retrieved whole from memory at the time of use. In recent years, the application of formulaic language to English teaching has been a rising research direction in domestic linguistic study. It has been confirmed by many researches that the application of formulaic language in oral English teaching makes the learners speak more accurately, fluently and authentically. But how to apply formulaic language to oral English teaching in high school is still a problem to be discussed.Based on the correlative studies of formulaic language by previous researchers, through extensive reference of related literature, the author carries out an empirical study on the systematically formulaic language instruction from document summary, investigation and interview. In this experiment, the students from an intact class in senior one of Xiangxiang No.1 Middle school are chosen as the experimental subjects. The research focuses on solving the following three questions:(1) what is the situation and current existing problems of oral English teaching and learning in high school?(2) Will it contribute to improve the accuracy, idiomaticity and fluency through putting formulaic language into oral English teaching in high school?(3) How to carry out the formulaic language instruction effectively in oral English teaching of middle school, thus enhancing seniors’ spoken English?.Ahead of 18 weeks experiment on formulaic language teaching, the author finds the main problems that exist in oral English in senior high school students by a questionnaire survey, those are as follows, poor vocabulary and lack of fluency, improper word choice and inappropriate speaking, ‘Chinglish’ and lack of self-esteem. And the students are required to test their oral English ability before the experiment. The training process includes:(1)input formulaic language, which combine direct-teaching method, situational teaching method, classification method, and culture fusion method for English teaching;(2)internalize formulaic language, the author classify formulaic language and design kinds of practice to enhancing the internalization of formulaic language;(3) output training of formulaic language, speech,debate and role-play and some other activities can be used as tools to apply the acquired formulaic language into oral English. In the end, post-tests of speaking is distributed to students to collect related information about the usage as well as efficiency of formulaic language in oral English. Data collected from the research is analyzed by SPSS.From the analysis of data, after the experiment, the students of experiment class, who mastered an increasing number of formulaic language, did much better than those of the control class in fluency, accuracy and idiomaticity in oral English test. The study believes that the way to integrating formulaic language into high school oral English teaching can strengthen students’ English speaking in fluency, accuracy and idiomaticity.
