A Comparative Study Of Technique And Tactics Of Today’s Outstanding Women’s Singles Badminton Players-- Li Xuerui And Neville

With the rapid development of the world women’s badminton level, foreign players have enhanced the competitive levels greatly. Indian player Sania Neville, as the top athlete of the world women’s badminton, encountered Chinese athletes in many world championships. She has become a competitive opponent for Chinese women’s badminton team.Based on the methods of documents and materials, video observation and comparative analysis, the thesis makes the comparative analysis on the technique and tactics of Li Xuerui’s and Neville’s practical applications of the serve, receiver, the midfield and the backcourt in 5 matches in the past three years. It analyzes two players’ characteristcis of technique and tactics in the matches to provide reference for coaches to guide training and competition in the future.The results show that:(1) on service way, Li Xuerui mainly adopts forehand high ball, while Neville mainly adopts forehand net ball; on serve placement, the former player mainly concentrates in No.8 area, while the latter one mainly concentrates in No.2 area. On serve the route, Li Xuerui takes 4 kinds of serve the routes, but Neville concentrates 2 routes in the foretcourt.(2) on the way of receiver placement, Li Xuerui concentrates in No.3, No.7 and No.9 areas, while Neville concentrates in No.1, No.3, No.7 and No.9 areas. According to the routes data, two players adopts slash more than straight line.(3) Li Xuerui strikes in forecourt mainly concentrating in the No.1, No.3, No.7 and No.9 areas, Neville concentrates in No.3, No.7 and No.9 areas and less in No.1 area. On route, it shows that Li Xuerui and Neville adopt straight line more than slash.(4) Li Xuerui returns mainly concentrating in the opponent’s placement No.1, No.4, No.6, No.7and No.9 areas, while Neville concentrates in No.1, No.3, No.5, No.6 and No.9 areas. As far as route, it shows that both of them adopt straight line more than slash; from the perspective of scores, Li Xuerui scores much more than losing. On the contratry, Neville loses more. The data shows that Li Xuerui uses backcourt tactics better than Nevill.(5) From the aspect of serving tactics, Li Xuerui scores more than Neville by continuous service. At the process of alternate service ace, Li Xuerui’s ability of cathing service ace opportunities is better than Neville. Li Xuerui is good at controlling the initiative; On the return of service technique, Li Xuerui adopts lobs and chops without vavriable tactics. But Neville is better and efficent on return of service.(6) On forecourt tactics, Li Xuerui controls forecourt by adopting net shot, while Neville is good at striking backcourt ball and changing routes. From the perspective of backcourt tactics, it shows that the former athlete mobilizes the opponent at the court by using drive and lob. However, the latter one can creat a smash opportunity and forming an attack tactic.
