Assessment is one of the links indispensable to a perfect teaching process. College entrance examination is undoubtedly the most authoritative, widespread and influential testing instruments of all kinds of examinations in China. For students and schools, it is a terminal assessment which is highly recognized by the society and meanwhile has a far-reaching influence. The development of a school is closely connected with that of students and college entrance examination is by far a very important approach that helps rural students to achieve success.With the rapid development of information-based education and with a view to better promoting the development of schooling, many schools have gradually established and used relevant information management systems including the School Roll Management System of Jiangsu Province, Teaching Personnel Management System, Management Platform of Primary and Middle School Education Cards, Management Platform of High-quality Class-instruction Resources of Jiangsu Province, Students’ Performance Management System and so on. With each passing year, the use of these systems has produced mass data, which have formed consistent data streams. At present, as far as Sanchang Middle School, Haimen City(hereinafter referred to as Changzhong) is concerned, these data, which remain independent and scattered, are only used for the convenience of inquiry and statistics for relevant departments. However, the inter-relationship between these data and college entrance examination results has not yet been fully mined. How to analyze and mine the factors affecting college entrance examination results from the present data with the aid of online analysis and data mining techniques not only serves as an important decision-making basis for middle school education but also helps to promote the individual development of both teachers and students and raise the overall standards of running a school.In this thesis, the author targets his probe at the data involving the students studying in Changzhong from 2011 through to 2015. These data include the students’ college entrance examination results, their records and senior middle school entrance examination results, teaching personnel information and the students’ examination results at each stage of the three school-years.The author presents some hidden but useful information mined from these data by applying such techniques as multi-dimensional data sets, Online Analytical Processing(OLAP for short) and data mining.This thesis is of great significance in that data mining serves as guidance not only for the formulation of high school instructional strategies but also for the individual development of students.
