Nowadays, the notion of preconcept experienced by students before attending primary school becomes the favorite topic in education research. This dissertation aims at analyzing the concept of preconcept from both theoretical and practical points of view. Based on whether it can be developed into scientific theory, preconcept can be divided in three classes(categories). As illustrated by the chapter on “Tools and Mechanics” from 6th grade’s teaching materials, in addition to applied education research with insight gathered from surveys, correspondingly solve the three common misconceptions about students’ preconcept: accumulate hands-on experience according to students ’age, emphasize linkage between knowledge points according to case analysis, and rebuild systematic learning according to cognitive biases. This text hopes to meaningfully contribute in helping students to take benefit of preconcept, discard any misconception on preconcept, and in the process of building scientific notions to lead towards a common advancement by teachers and students alike. The dissertation is divided in six chapters. The first chapter introduces the background and purpose of this research, related concepts, and reviews the current research conducted in this domain both from domestic and foreign literatures. The second chapter presents an investigation and analysis of the current situation. Four different surveys are designed to gauge how well students mastered “Mechanics and Tools”. The third chapter classifies the reasons behind the forming of preconcept, and more specifically for each knowledge point of “Mechanics and Tools”. The fourth chapter explains the methods on the research of precept, including the research strategies and the principle and case analysis that underlie the learning design process. The final chapter is an overview and prospect of preconcept education, summarizing test results, key points conveyed in this text, and suggests areas in this research that need further improvement.
