At the stage of elementary education, reading in the morning and methodological guidance play an important role in laying the foundation for middle school students’ English learning. It is currently believed that, due to the inefficient time use of the reading in the morning, and the lack of effective teacher guidance and evaluation of the teaching/learning effects, the students often hesitate about or even don’t have ideas about what to do and how to do it during the reading. Up to now, there is, in China, very little empirical research on this issue. Meanwhile, existing research results are not abundant enough to support the English teaching reform in middle schools. Because of the above reasons, this study has been conducted to explore the effects of teacher-guided English reading in the morning on middle school students? English learning.Based on the basic principle of education, and the relevant research evidence that Chinese researchers have found in reading course teaching in the morning, the current study was systematically conducted by means of empirical research methods, combined with literature research and questionnaires. In accordance with the psychological principles of recitation, the psychological basis of reading-aloud, the particularity of linguistic movement, and the dyslexia learning strategies, an exploratory study was conducted on the effects of teacher-guided English reading in the morning on middle school students? English learning. The English reading guidance system created in this thesis consists of four parts, i.e. the teachers’ guidance principle, the basic method of teachers? instruction, the learning methods and learning requirements of students, and the strategies and evaluation of management in the English reading course in the morning. In order to verify the effectiveness of the established system, a correlation analysis was carried out between the listening/speaking performance and the exam results by means of SPSS15.0 and the data analysis of the questionnaire was also done. The results show that morning reading for middle school students? English learning has certain inherent laws, mainly reflected in the improvement of the students’ interest and autonomy in English learning and language learning capacity for sustainable development. The study has found that surveyed subjects are obviously influenced by the created reading method and the strategy. They have a remarkable change in reading attitudes, motivation, confidence and interest in English, and the learning autonomy. Such a change can improve their sustainable development ability in the language learning in the future. The guidance methods can also improve teachers and students? awareness of the importance of morning reading. Teachers? careful preparation of lessons and materials prior to the class and targeted training to students can obviously increase the time-using efficiency for students in English reading in the morning, which will be good to help students to develop an excellent English learning habit, to exercise and train students? ability of English listening, reading, speaking, and meanwhile to enrich the students’ knowledge of English language and culture. As a result, the morning English reading will become an effective supplement and extension of the English classroom teaching. Therefore, teachers should respect the premise of the inherent internal rules and theories of foreign language learning, and should, systematically and whole-heartedly, guide the middle school students to develop suitable English reading methods. With a view to reinforcing the effectiveness of morning reading, middle school English teachers should constantly and continuously improve their teaching methods so as to enhance the teaching quality.
