A Study Of Washback Of English Writing Task In Hubei Province College Entrance Examination

Based on the backwash effect theory, the thesis makes a thorough inquiry into the backwash effect which the writing of Hubei Gaokao exerts on the English class including its positive and negative effects, as well as its potential impact. Then the researcher puts forward corresponding measures aiming to exaggerate the positives and to reduce the negatives in order to improve the learning and teaching.The thesis obtains the data from 483 students and 32 teachers through a series of questionnaires,interviews and class observations in Wuhan No.19 Middle School to analyze the backwash effect of Hubei English College Entrance Examination. What stands out in the paper is the humanistic value throughout the exam. The author believes that the humanistic value can have a positive effect on the English class, therefore appealing to the teachers to apply it into teaching.
