Recently, the reform of the National Matriculation English Test(NMET) is a continuously hot topic. With the coming of the latest reform, many provinces across the country have put forward their new examination plans. The reform of NMET puts emphasis on the main idea that the development of the exams should base on the principle of stability. Besides, it still insists on the principle that the reform should pay enough attention to the discourse, communication, flexibility, and application. According to the 2014 Examination Syllabus of NMET, the traditional multiple choice test was replaced by the discourse grammar cloze test. However, facing with this new kind of test, many students cannot have a clear recognition to the discourse on the whole, resulting in the low scores and many errors in the test. Besides, the students are lack of the sense of discourse analysis. What’s more, the teachers in high schools usually adopt the traditional teaching method to teach this kind of new test, which puts less emphasis on the discourse analysis. Therefore, the author aims to testify that applying the discourse analysis theory to teach the new discourse analysis cloze can cultivate the discourse analysis awareness of the students and their ability of dealing with this test.The paper adopts the research method which combines the theory analysis with research. The first part of the paper aims to elaborate the significance and purpose of the study, and then the second part reviews the development and related study of discourse analysis and discourse grammar cloze from home and abroad. The literature review of relevant concepts and theories are presented in the third part. Based on the parts above, the fourth and fifth parts introduce the research methods of questionnaire and test. The research is carried out by doing the questionnaire and test on 129 students and 4 teachers in Senior One of Zhen’an Advanced High School in Dandong, Liaoning Province. The result of the survey shows that the students have difficulties in dealing with the following aspects, such as, the skills of answering the discourse grammar cloze, the attitude to this kind of new test and the students’ awareness of discourse analysis.In addition, the author carries out a research at this school which lasts for 4four months. The author leads the students to doing the exercises about the discourse grammar cloze, and then let them do the questionnaire and several periodical tests in order to testify whether the score of this kind of test and the attitude of the students have improved. Last but not least, according to the results of the research, applying the discourse analysis into the teaching of discourse grammar cloze can improve the students’ awareness of discourse analysis and help them to develop their abilities of dealing with this type of test. In the last part, the author gives some suggestions and enlightenment to the students and teachers.
