A Study Of The Application Of Error Analysis In English Cloze In Senior High School

The ultimate goal of English teaching in senior high school aims at developing students’ general abilities in applying basic knowledge and settling problems. Nowadays, cloze has been an essential part in English examination and has been regarded as the most difficult part. However, few studies of Error Analysis on cloze have been analyzed. Therefore, the paper intends to explore the study of Error Analysis on cloze with two research questions:1. What are the types and causes of errors made by students in cloze in senior high school?2. What are the effects of Error Analysis in cloze in senior high school?The author concludes and analyzes the types and causes of errors made by students in senior high school. Based on the theory of Error Analysis, the author guides students to learn so as to find out some effective solutions of reducing the frequency of errors appeared in cloze. In addition, the author provides some pedagogical suggestions for teachers and students to deal with the problems in cloze.Through questionnaire, interview, pre-test and post-test, the author collects the errors made by students who are from X X Senior High School in Shan Xi Province in cloze. Through questionnaire, the author knows students’ attitudes towards cloze, their strategies of doing cloze and so on. Interview helps the author master the situation of errors made by students in senior high school. With the help of Error Analysis, the study shows that the errors made by students in cloze can be concluded in the aspects of lexical, preposition, grammar and context. Therefore, the author suggests that students should read English materials as many as possible in the premise of mastering the basic knowledge of English so as to improve their general abilities in cloze.However, the error data collected in the study only limits in a local area, which obviously fails to conclude all the types of errors in cloze. The studies on the issue need to go on widely and thoroughly. Therefore, the author hopes the paper will be of great help for further studies.
