Social workers, as the transmitter of social welfare, constantly play a crucial role in the development of society. Social work is closely related with social progress. In recent years, as social work develops in the mainland, the profession of social worker is gradually learned and accepted by the public. Social workers follow the value of "helping others is actually helping oneself" and carry out professional methods such as case-studying, grouping, community-helping and administrative-working. They help clients to realize their potential, coordinate social relations, solve and prevent social problems, promote social justice, and pass social welfare to members of society at the same time. Therefore, social work has significant influence on stabilizing social development and advancing social progress. Since the reform and opening up, the development of social work has achieved great performance. Although it is relatively delayed comparing to that in the western developed countries because of the late start and low acknowledgement of the public, social work is recognized and accepted by the public gradually with time passing by, and appear more and more in various areas of society, and has become the image symbol of social changes.Film, as the carrier of cultural communications, present social background and characters as products of the times. Since 1980s, a tremendous change has taken place in many areas such as politics, economy and culture in the mainland. Social work has also experienced great changes and many social-work-related films appear in the view of public. As social work develops, the quantity of films and the importance of social workers’ role in the films have increased as well. Social work films of different times represent current situation of society and the development of social work. The changes and causes along the way of development are essential to further the study of progress of social work in the mainland. This study is to analyze social work changes in the mainland since 1980s relying on the well-known-media---films.This paper attempts to study the social background, social work films and development of social work in the mainland of all times since 1980s, organize and conclude social work films, interpret the changing process of social work films, and analyze existing problems and reasons in those changes. Thus lead to thoughts on the change and development of social work films, and to promote better development of social work in the mainland.
