The purpose of the present study is to research how to stimulate students’ motivation for writing and enhance their writing competence. But writing can only be improved through constant practice and this exercise process is often very boring and tiring. Therefore, motivating students to write and inspiring their writing interest is a key point to successful English writing teaching. Then this teaching empirical research aims to find whether the applying of story teaching approach in the English writing teaching in senior high school is feasible, how to conduct the story approach in senior high school English writing class and what positive effects that story approach can bring to senior high school English writing teaching. And these are the three major research questions that this study wants to explore.This study first reviews the research on English story teaching at home and abroad and then explores English story writing from the theoretical and empirical aspects. The theoretical research analyzes the teaching objectives, teaching principles and feasibility of English story writing. Then a teaching sample and a questionnaire about students’attitudes towards English story writing are conducted and this research shows that the story approach can stimulate students’interest and motivate their initiative in writing. And story approach exerts a positive effect on enhancing creativity and language applying ability of students. Finally, the author puts forward six teaching suggestions from three perspectives of student, teacher and story approach itself to promote the applying of story approach in senior high school English writing. These suggestions are shown as follows:a). Students should strengthen the cultivation of cooperative skill; b). Students should pay attention to the practice after class; c). Teachers should clearly define their class roles; d). Teachers should keep continuous learning and developing; e). A story teaching assessment system should be constructed; and f). Story approach should be combined with other teaching approaches.
