A Comparative Analysis On Zhang Jike And Ovtcharov Dimitrij’s Technique And Tactics With The Change Of Table Tennis Ball Material

In recent years, for the purpose to change world table tennis situation that China outshined others a lot, the International Table Tennis Federation conducted a series of reforms for table tennis competition rules and regulations. Although it was proved that is no use, the ITTF still keeps reforming. The latest reform is that a new kind of plastic ball which is made of polymer will be used as the official ball of international table tennis competitions since July 1st,2014. Therefore, taking Zhang Jike and Ovtcharov Dimitrij’s Technique and Tactics as research object, through the method of literature review, video observation, mathematical statistics and logical analysis, this paper researched those two players’Technique, placement, line before and after using new plastic ball by longitudinal and transverse comparison, preliminarily explore the effects on their technique and tactics after the change of ball material. Conclusions are as follow:After the change of ball material, between the longitudinal periods:For Zhang Jike and Ovtcharov Dimitrij, there is no difference in the numbers proportion of the ball which scores a point during serve-and-attack, receive-and-attack, and stalemate stage before and after using the new plastic ball, and the change of their strike plate numbers is also not obvious. The effects of their serving are affected not so far, but the use probability of their serving placement at middle district near net increased. And, the change of ball material has little effect on Zhang Jike’s technique/placement/line scoring rate; as for Ovtcharov Dimitrij, it has certain influence on his scoring rate of offensive placement at middle district near end line and non-offensive oblique line in mid-way. The use rate of their technique/placement/line has adjusted, on the whole, the use probability of offensive technique/placement/line relatively decreased while non-offensive technique/placement/line relatively increased.Between the transverse periods:Zhang Jike’s serving effects are better, but his change of serving placement is less; he is good at forehand controlling, and his backhand attacking is quite powerful, and he adapted to the new plastic ball better, but his ability to control or defense is slightly weak in stalemate stage; as a whole, his competitive level is better than Ovtcharov Dimitrij. Ovtcharov Dimitrij, his serving placement changes flexible; he does well in backhand controlling, and his forehand attacking is powerful, but his technique is not delicate enough, so he needs to strengthen adaptive training according to the features of new plastic ball that he can give full play to his own advantage, and then strive to make his competitive level have a qualitative leap.
