Since it’s put forward on the eighteenth national congress of the Communist Part of China, the central government attaches great importance to the cultivation of Socialist Core Values in the whole society. Under the new situation, the rural middle school students’ identify of the Socialist Core Values is related to the social harmony and national security. In order to provide scientific advice of cultivation, we need to understand the rural middle school students’ status quo of Socialist Core Values. Therefore, through prescription the cognitive representation of Socialist Core Values and identification of Socialist Core Values of students in rural middle school. It will provide appropriate recommendations for cultivating Socialist Core Values of rural middle school students.Based on the previous studies, the study is guided by the social representation theory, then we have an empirical study in Jianshi County, Enshi Prefecture, Hubei Province. It contains two aspects:The first is through in-depth interviews, using the grounded theory method to analysis text data, and then to understand the rural middle school students’ cognitive representation of Socialist Core Values. The results indicated:(1) Rural middle school students have significant differences in the cognition of the three aspects of the Socialist Core Values. The cognition is more from the individual life experience, and lacks a profound understanding of the relationships between individuals and society.(2) The representations of Socialist Core Values, not only embodies the mark of the traditional culture, but also reflects the characteristics of the modern society.(3) Lacking depth rational thinking about the social problems and reflecting the trace of force-feeding education in the stage of basic education.The second is using the questionnaire survey to understand the status quo of rural middle school students’ identification of Socialist Core Values. Results showed:(1) Their awareness of the Socialist Core Values is low, and many students confuse the Socialist Core Values with the content of the construction of socialist modernization. This phenomenon is more obvious in junior high school students.(2) The approaches which rural middle school students obtain information are diversified; Television is still the main channel, meanwhile, the role of network media has become increasingly prominent, but the school education in the propaganda of Socialist Core Values did not play its role.(3) Their cognitive characteristics of Socialist Core Values are diversified, but the most important information are closely related to the individual life; There are significant differences in the demographic variables such as gender, nationality, family residence, grade and so on.(4) On the affective commitment, rural middle school students recognize that the society is under the rule of law, then most people are patriotic, and relatively they least recognized is now this is not a civilized and equal society and also not very satisfied with the current social honesty condition. Then, they have most confidence in achieving the prosperity country and the rule of law society. At the same time, they have least confidence in realizing equality and trust society. Compared with senior high students, students from town and members of the Communist Youth League students, junior high school students, students from rural areas and ordinary students have higher emotion recognition degree.(5) Their willness in the practice of Socialist Core Values are relatively high, and trying their best to be a patriotic, honest, friendly person are relatively higher than other contents; Compared with boys、senior high students and the Communist Youth League students, girls、junior high school students and ordinary students’ willness are more higher.According to the above results, we put forward the following countermeasures and suggestions on the cultivation of Socialist Core Values for rural middle school students’. First, we should carry out a wide range of effective education, create an atmosphere of public opinion, and then to improve the awareness of rural middle school students on the Socialist Core Values; Second, we should pay attention to the needs of the subject, to promote the rural middle school students’ emotional identity to the Socialist Core Values; Third, from two aspects: daily behavior and social practice to strengthen the rural middle school students’ practice of the Socialist Core Values, for promoting the unity of knowledge and practice.
