English writing is one of the most important skills in the process of learning English, and it embodies the comprehensive competences of leaners’ English language skills and the language using ability. How to improve English writing teaching and reduce students’ writing errors is a difficulty, which has long been explored by a great many junior high school English teachers. This research is mainly to analyze the errors by using error analysis theory. The writer applies error correction to improve leaners’ English writing skills in order to tackle those errors. The theory indicates that errors cannot be avoided, but they should be regarded as a natural phenomenon in the process of leaners’ internalization of the target language. Through collecting, classifying and scientifically analyzing errors, teachers can adopt suitable strategies and apply the effective methods to improve leaners’ foreign language proficiency in the teaching activities.This thesis analyzes the current writing situations in junior school English writing and the types of errors that the students made with the guidance of error analysis, contrastive analysis, and interlanguage theory. The empirical part contains two tasks. This thesis analyzes 80 compositions written in the same period of the experiment with two topics written by 40 students in Grade Nine and then a collection of errors is made. The analysis is followed by a discussion of the factors leading to the common errors in the composition. The result shows that the main reasons are interlingual, intralingual errors and some other environmental factors. The research shows that error analysis theory can be applied to the English writing classes. And it can be used to correct errors in students’ compositions by means of students’ self-correction and group discussion led by the teachers’ assistance.According to the analysis, the a uthor puts forward some English writing teaching suggestions and methods. Though error analysis theory has played certain roles in the error correction in English writing tasks, a number of errors still appear again in the writing tasks. In general, this study makes a foundation for the improvement of English writing teaching. Meanwhile, it facilitates learners’ confidence in error correction, therefore improving their confidence to improve their English writing abilities.
