Since the early 21st century, leadership for learning as a new mode of educational leadership has drawn strong attention of researchers in the Britain, American and other developed countries. Leadership for learning is learning-centered, treating learning as core goals and value pursuit. Leadership for learning is a distinct form of educational practice that involves how to improve student learning and school improvement.The U.S. and U.K. and other developed countries have done some research on the practices of leadership for learning. In 2006, Joseph Murphy et al., in the Vanderbilt University, with supports from the Wallace Foundation, have reviewed many studies. They proposed the idea, emphasized the importance and designed the evaluation tool---Vanderbilt Assessment of Leadership in Education (VAL-Ed) of leadership for learning. In 2001, the University of Cambridge LfL (Leadership for Learning) team set up a website " Leadership for Learning:Cambridge Network." LfL team explored the connection between learning and leadership, making a difference around the world. Leadership for learning has a great significance on enhancing student learning and promoting school improvement.This thesis is divided into four parts. Chapter I mainly introduces the reasons of choosing this topic, research problem, research hypothesis, concept definition, research methods and so on.Chapter â…ˇ is Literature Review, which is about the classification and analysis of the national and international literature of leadership for learning and school improvement. This is the basis and premise of this study.The third chapter is the core part of this thesis, which introduces and compares the practices of leadership for learning in the United States and United Kingdom, and concludes the core practices of leadership for learning. The conclusion of Silins and Leithwood about successful school leadership is used to analyze the impact of leadership for learning on school improvement. Exploring how to improve school by leadership for learningChapter IV is Conclusions and Limitations. The main conclusions are drawn: leadership for learning has an important impact on school improvement; maintain a focus on learning, share school leadership and accountability, everyone is a leader, establish learning community, improvement student learning and promote school improvement. Put out the limitations of the research, and the future research prospects.
