Graduate education is the top of higher education, which bears the important mission to transport high-level innovation talents for the country, and to improve the level of national science and technology. In the process of graduate education, the supervisor bears the main responsibility. The quality of mentoring affects the development of graduate education directly. The research on mentoring is an important field of connotative development of graduate education and is conducive to improving the quality of mentoring and graduate education. It has certain academic value and practical guiding significance.By questionnaire survey, this paper points out the following problems:First, the student number of each supervisor mentors is very large, which affects the mentoring time and students’satisfaction; Second, mentors’guidance frequency of the professional degree is relatively low; Third, this survey shows that the time is proportional to the students’satisfaction, but the time period of mentoring is short; Fourth, the mentoring contents of professional degree focus on the research, experiment and dissertations, which is similar to that of academic degree. Therefore, the characteristics of professional degree is lost; Fifth, "authoritarian" model existing in the process of mentoring will affect the relationship between mentors and students and the students’ creativity training; Sixth, the study concludes that the frequency of participating in the academic training is proportional to the students’satisfaction. However, students in humanities and social sciences have few chances of participating in the academic training; Seventh, the evaluation subject is single, mainly the leaders of school and faculty. The evaluation indicators are lack of specificity and scientific, so it is difficult to evaluate the good and bad respects of mentoring.On the basis of analysis about the present situation of mentoring, the paper points out that the mentoring ability is insufficiency and the responsibility consciousness of mentors is relatively weak. The government authority on universities is strong, which attaches great importance to the fruits of scientific research and cares little about the mentoring on students. So the assessment results lack fairness and accuracy. The educational policy ignores the teachers’development and the requirements for students’ cultivation in academic ability of professional degree are not clear. The above contents are the fundamental reasons of the supervisor’s mentoring on the students.Finally, the paper puts forward some suggestions on improving the quality of mentoring. Firstly, the supervisors should enhance their self-improvement and strengthen guidance consciousness by participating in more mentoring training; secondly, the universities should construct evaluation indicators by classification, weaken the administrative authority and make reasonable use of performance appraisal results; thirdly, the administrative departments of education should pay more attention to the personal development of mentors. They should clarify the connotation of policy and make the requirements of academic ability of professional degree clear so as to enhance the quality of graduate education.
