Junior high school stage is a very important stage of life, the rapid growth of junior high school students on the body causes their huge changes in psychological development. In that case junior high school students show obvious stage characteristics both in body and psychology. In the meantime, with the rapid development of our society, the living environment junior high school students live in is more and more complexed. It leads to some new features in their mental health, such as contradiction, complexity and differences and so on. As a basic course dedicated in moral and healthy development of junior high school students, the teaching objectives of ideological and political education are not only acquiring knowledge but also developing skills and arousing emotions. As we all know learning behavior mainly depends on students’ psychological factors like interests, motivations and will. It’s useful to a teacher’s class design and implementation if teachers understand and grasp the characteristics of psychological development and mental health status of junior high school students.The paper is composed of five parts:The first part is the introduction,introduces the background and significance of this study and explains the research methods、innovation and research conditions and possible existing problem.The second part focuses on the need and possibilities of the application of the investigation of mental health in ideological and political education. On one hand, the investigation of mental health is scientific and effective. It can reflect the psychological development of junior high school students more accurately. On this basis ideological and political education will be more scientific, targeted and effective.On the other hand, ideological and political education contains a lot of mental health education content and value and the conditions of junior high school make it possible.The third part is with the questionnaire <Middle School Students Mental Health Scale> to investigate the mental health of local junior high school students. Results are as follows:1) Compared with the national norm the mental health status of local students is higher than the national average;2).The mental health status of local students varies according to the grade, students in Grade 7 is highest while Grade 9lowest;3) The mental health status of local students varies according to sex----boys are at special advantage.The fourth part is the key part of the paper. According to the results try to find the ways of the application of the investigation of mental health in ideological and political education. On one hand,in ideological and moral teaching practice teachers must dig up the educational value of teaching psychology in textbooks to increase the teaching effectiveness. And teachers must pay attention to differences on grade and sex to increase the teaching scientificalness.On the other hand,the paper proposes measures and recommendations of the application of the investigation of mental health in ideological and political education. Firstly, the state should provide an institutional guarantee in rational allocation of mental health education resources and promoting innovation and the development of psychological monitoring and measurement theory.Secondly, make the infrastructure more completed and the campus atmosphere moer improved to promote the usefulness and effectiveness of the psychological investigation.Lastly, improving personnel selection and job training mechanisms to enhance the quality and ability of teachers.
