Comparative Study On College Student Leadership

At the present stage, the researches of college students" leadership are at the early stage in the domestic, and most of them have been paid more attention to conclusions of measurement dimension of leadership, responsible factors, and college students" leadership training and knowledge education. It’s in desperately need of making theory and method rich and complete. The analysis of college students" leadership research is helpful to grasp the content constitution of college students’leadership comprehensively and grasp action mechanism of college students’leadership better.Therefore, this study is based on the theories of college students’leadership and research methods, bringing in Kouzes and Posner’s leadership theory, and using its compilation of the student leadership measurement scale, through questionnaires, making an empirical research for students of Yanbian University. The study mainly includes a comparative study of college students’ leadership traits and leadership behaviors. Leadership traits mainly consist of "Respected leadership qualities" and "Self diagnostics on college students’ leadership traits ". which mainly studies whether college students’ cognitive of leadership trait in China is the same as Kouzes and Posner’s research result. In terms of the leadership behavior research, it is mainly through the measurement of different aspects, like different campus, major, nationality’, sex. area, student cadres and so on. to find out each dimensions’ differences of leadership traits and leadership behavior.The results of the study show that, firstly, in the aspect of "Respected leadership qualities", it is only "qualified" and "forward-looking" that is commonly accepted by students of Yanbian University, which is correspond to the study of Kouzes and Posner’s research result, but "sincerity" and "passion" haven’t been verified. The trait of "fair" is agreed by most of college students. Secondly, the result of "Self diagnostics on college students’ leadership traits " shows that, although students among different campus, major, nationality, sex and area, some have selected the "passion", "honest", "forward-looking", "qualified" and other qualities, but the proportion of selection is very small. It means that the four qualities have not attracted enough attention of college students. Lastly, in the aspect of leadership action, compared with measurement results of Kouzes and Posner’s leadership theory about five dimensions, there are also some differences between different campus, sex. area, nationality and so on.Finally, based on the research results, the paper provids some suggestions according to the shortcomings of college students" leadership traits and leadership actions, and explains limitations of this study by puting forward the expectation of research in the future.
