China has the most English learners in the world. In order to teach English well, Chinese English teachers try various teaching methods. Among the methods, the reflective teaching method and the situational teaching method are the classroom-teaching formats that are most widely used in China. Many researches also prove that the situational teaching method and the reflective teaching method are effective patterns of organizing English teaching. Separate researches on the two teaching methods have been carried out greatly. However, researches on the combination of the two methods are insufficient. The author chose 785 students of Senior One from Yuxi No.3 Middle School as the research subjects, and then divided into a control group(hereinafter CG) and an experimental group(hereinafter EG). The students from the first group receive separate situational teaching and reflective teaching, while the students from the second group receive a combination of the two teachings. This paper aims to explore how and to what extent the combination of the two teaching methods impact students’ autonomy and affection for English study. This investigation adopts questionnaires and comparison of academic scores, the data of which are analyzed with the help of SPSS19.0 and the results of which are as follows:(1) The combination of situational and reflective teaching does have an influence on students’ autonomy and affection for English study.(2) Situational teaching is beneficial to the cultivation of learner autonomy and affection for English study while reflection can optimize situational teaching.(3) Effective teaching is the production of mixed teaching that has integrated various teaching methods, especially the situational teaching method and the reflective teaching method.The research also indicates that the integration of various teaching is quite necessary for us Chinese English teachers to foster our students’ learner autonomy and affection for English study.Moreover, the researcher summarizes the implications of the study. Teaching is a process that is really complicated. Besides teaching knowledge itself, many other factors are involved, such as strategies, motivations and interests. Therefore, teachers need to reform teaching methods, create different teaching scenes, and reflect more on teaching process so as to make students think more and learn autonomously by themselves. After all, students are true to life and the aim of education is to inspire and guide the self development of them.Finally, a few limitations of this thesis and some personal suggestions for further research are proposed at the end of this paper to help other researchers to do more exploration on the topic and to make learning and teaching more effective in the future.
