As the generalization of global information technology, the arrival of information and net era, education reform is carrying out everywhere in the world. The students in the twenty-first century should learn how to know, learn how to do, learn how to live together and learn how to be. With the implement of The New National Curriculum Standard, teachers are required to put special emphasis on cultivating the ability of English learner autonomy. At present, the learners are short of autonomous learning consciousness. This issue is urgent to be solved.In this thesis, the author analyzes the reasons why the learners lack autonomous learning ability at first, then discusses the characteristics of autonomous English learning and the teachers ought to change their teaching concepts, especially English teaching and computer-assisted learning integration in order to foster the learners' ability to learn on their own. In this thesis, the author emphasizes that the computer and the net play an important role in some aspects of learner autonomy—goal setting, choices of the learning subjects, self-evaluation, cooperation and so on. The author quotes relevant theories and principles on autonomous language learning from domestic and abroad. Constructivism and The New National Curriculum Standard will provide theoretical and practical foundations for the research.In a word, the intention of the thesis lies in that teachers should be creative in their teaching practice. That means the teachers should improve their classroom teaching, raise their teaching proficiency and the learners' learning interests by changing their teaching styles and strategies and utilize computer-assisted teaching for training the learners to form the habit of autonomous learning. The final goal is to make the learners have the sense of establishing the foundation for their life-long study.
