Vocabulary is not only the core research of language acquisition, but it also has the close relationship with language learning. With the wide attention paying to the field of language acquisition, the study about the state of the productive vocabulary ability development by analyzing learners’ texts attracts much attention.This study uses three months to research the variety level of productive vocabulary lexical in Urumqi No. 10 middle school senior two students’ English compositions within time limit and analyzes 98 compositions of two class.The data of lexical variation, lexical sophistication and lexical density are processed by Range32. And Wordsmith Tool 5.0 is for collecting word length. The study analyzes and gets the development characteristic and the general trend of lexical frequency profile and the development and changes of four dimensions of lexical variety. And the study analyzes the correlation between the variety level of productive vocabulary lexical and the writing proficiency of students. So that this study can provide a reference for related research as well as the high school English teaching in the future.The study shows that the productive vocabulary of senior two students’ timed compositions is generally much depending on first basic 1000 words. But as time goes, the phenomenon of using the high frequency words turns a downward trend from 94.16% to 92.37% and using the low frequency words turns a small upward trend, which shows that the students’ productive vocabulary ability can be improved. The situation overall of lexical variation in students’ composition is less than 20%, which is low and means the lexical repetition rate is high. It also shows that the ability level of students to illustrate their own communicative intention by mastering vocabulary is low. The level of lexical sophistication has not been effective promotion, which shows students do not understand words clearly and can not free to use them. The level of lexical density in the composition steps up from 39.27% to 42.92% which means the quantity of notional words is increasing and the conveyed content of the composition also have progress. At the same time, the growth of the average word length shows that with time development, students’ memory and ability of using words have improved. And there is the positive correlation between the variety level of productive vocabulary lexical and the writing proficiency of students.Although this study has certain limitation, it puts forward some implications and suggestions for high school English vocabulary teaching and writing teaching, which are the teacher should pay attention to the all-round development of students’ vocabulary knowledge in the vocabulary teaching, help students to increase the chance of vocabulary output and in the writing teaching, trains the student to get into the habit of accumulation.
