| In modern society, various businesses realize that the traditional mode of meeting hasgreatly impacted the effectiveness of the work-out, so the virtual meeting system is neededand growing up, such as PSTN Teleconference and Videoconferencing. A PSTNteleconference is the live exchange and mass articulation of information among severalpersons and machines remote from one another but linked by PSTN. And videoconferencingis the conduct of a videoconference (also known as a video conference or videoteleconference)by a set of telecommunication technologies which allow two or more locations tocommunicate by simultaneous two-way video, audio, and file transmissions. At the same time,surveillance gets rapid development in security to monitor important places like productionsites and assembly rooms. It is convenient to make scheduling by showing what’s happeningon production sites in some conferences. So we effectively merge the Videoconferencing,PSTN Teleconference and Surveillance Platform together to build a MergedVideoconferencing System, it helps to rich the way people join the meeting and adapt toscheduling scenario.In order to make users be able to join video conferences easily, we conduct our researchabout Merged Videoconferencing based on Flash, a browser plug-in with enormous marketshare, so users will not need to install it again. There are several streaming media servers,FMS (Flash Media Server) and Red5are the most popular and support flash. Considering thatFMS is an expensive and commercialized multimedia system without accessing to the sourcecodes, we choose Red5as our research and development foundation. As we all know, mostwebcams transmit its video stream by RTSP protocol, which is not supported by Red5, so wehave to extend communication module in Red5by adding protocol converter between RTMPand RTSP.At the beginning of this article, we make a short introduction of PSTN Teleconferenceand surveillance platform. And then, we elaborate on design of the protocol framework andbusiness logic of this system. After that, we describe the key technologies like the frameworkof Red5, RTSP protocol stack, RTP unpack technology, the implement of protocol converterbetween RTSP and RTMP and improvement of Frame dropping strategy.At the end of this article, we make thorough functional test and performance test on WebMerged Videoconferencing System. From functional point of view, the system includes thefeatures, such as real-time communication between videos and videoteleconference, loading surveillance video and whiteboard, etc. To validate the performance of protocol converter ofRed5, we test the following parameters, the frame delay, the effectiveness of frame droppingstrategy, and network bandwidth. The test results show that the design of MergedVideoconferencing can be adopted into real project. |
