In this era of information explosion, vast amounts of data grow at double speed every year.The huge market opportunity hidden behind the unbelievable demand, directly contribute to the development of storage, networking and computing technologies. More and more enterprises need to build their storage system using network storage technology, and they wouldn’t like to choose only one single provider. This forces different companies who produce disk arrays to promis a standard interface of software for easier and more efficient management by the customers. For this purpose, the Globle Storage Networking Association defines a protocol named SMI-S, to standardize the integration on different operating systems, different storage devices in a heterogeneous architecture.In this thesis, we analyse the SMI-S protocol, study the technology of disk array, research on how to build a CIM communication information model which correspond to the protocol, allowing users to exchange rich semantics and management information through each other’s systems using network.Besides, we investigate the method of recording real-time changes in disk array and transmitting to system. The design of this management system is based on the open source service architecture called Open Pegasus. We also elaborate this two level framework-condition monitoring layer and SMI-S provider management layer in detail. In addition, we describe the design and implementation of LUN masking and mapping module, the most important technology in the SMI-S standard protocol. The module is divided into two parts.One realizes the CIM modeling between entity class and relation class under different situations of the display system. The other responds to client requests for the operation of disk array, completes semantics’ analysis, and do the actual tasks operation.The implementation of this project helps companies to integrate and manage storage disk arrays produced easily by different manufacturers under different operating system platforms. It improves flexibility, manageability and reliability of the end-user storage network while user resource utilization gets greatly improved.
