Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is one of the most important technologies ofInternet of Things (IoT). In recent years it has been developing rapidly. High Frequency(HF) RFID is now widely used in laundry industry, however, due to the advantages thatUltra High Frequency (UHF) RFID has over HF, UHF will gain its popularity in the future.This paper has proposed an UHF RFID system for industrial laundry management basedon customer needs (CN) and system design of laundry management systems, and hasdesigned a label that is operable with handheld devices to replace the traditional laundrycounting channel, which has successfully reduced the cost. The relative managementsoftware is also developed, therefore the prototype is in a working condition.This paper is organized by:1) A tag design and optimization method for industrial laundry management. Dipoleantennas are widely used due to the simplicity and high performance. Based on the basicdesign theories of dipole antennas, this paper generated the optimization method ofimpedance conjugation and dimension reduction, and discussed the manufacturability ofthe tag. Prototype is also made and the working conditions as well as performance areresearched based on industrial practice.2) Based on UHF laundry management system design methods, a managementsoftware is developed. Based on the workflow of laundry, functional modules are able tocollaborate and a network is formed. With the handheld RW device and tags, the systemcan successfully operate industrial laundry management, thus the functional requirementsare achieved.3) the design factors of laundry management system, a comparison of HF and UHFsolutions is made based on the theories of RFID system. Then the design factors of RFIDantenna is studied, which have focused on the rule of impedance matching: whendesigning UHF tags, the impedance of antenna and chip should be conjugated so that themaximum power transmit is achieved. The UHF tag design validation methods are alsoresearched and the impedance of the antenna is computed by Electro-Magnetic simulation software.
