| The diversified mode of transmission and the trend towards "We the media" or "grassroots media" make Facebook the current most popular social media in the world, and attracted more than 13 million of Malaysian users.With the prevalence of social media, print media such as newspaper which practice the traditional mode of news production and transmission is now entering the social networking world. News information has been mined from the social media, and has been traced and reported in print media.The integration of new and traditional media has changed the traditional mode of news production. Journalists search for the clues or information from the new media, trace the information, and then report it in traditional media. The product/outcome is not only been reported in print media, but also been transmitted back to the social media. It is not only changing the structure of the traditional news production chain, but also affecting the contemporary news production mode.Through in-depth interviews with the journalists and editors, this study analyzes how Facebook affects the news production, and finds out the important factors which determine the news products, from the practitioners’ perspective.Journalists and editors from different newspaper institutions were interviewed in order to understand how the traditional media produce.the news with the intervention of the new media. Besides, this study also figures out how journalists and editors play a social responsibility role to produce the news in line with the responsibility and credibility in this flooded social media world. |
