Virtual scene exploring technology serves as the vital part of the technology of Virtual Reality. The technology produces the lifelike virtual environment by high-powered computer hardware and software, to make users have an immersed sense. Besides, the technology of virtual scene exploring is wildly applied into many fields such as preview of the future construction plan of the city, product exhibition, different landscape appreciation, medicine, aerospace and so on, and has been developed rapidly. However, the most exploring systems are lack of virtual characters and interactive functions, which influences users’ sense of reality and immersion. Therefore, adding virtual character and interactive function to the virtual scene exploring system is very important.The virtual scene exploring system mainly consists of three part including constructing scene and character modeling, making character motion and programming the exploring system. In this paper, we study the scene modeling, motion control, and virtual roaming, and other related algorithms and technologies by reviewing literature. The scene model and character model are the simulation imitation of the real world, whose fidelity directly influences the feeling of users. Motion control and interactive function improve the participation of users and enhance their sense of immersion of the exploring system. In the study of the virtual scene exploring technology, this thesis mainly reaches the following content:(1) In the quest3D development platform, this thesis studies the technology of polygon and surface modeling and texture mapping algorithm to construct realistic virtual scene and character model;(2) This thesis analyses joint animation algorithm, gradient animation algorithm skinned mesh animation algorithm and makes full use of skinned mesh technology and key frame technology to produce the interactive action of virtual characters;(3) On the base of unique channel programming of quest3D, this thesis achieves motion control of virtual character, switching view angle, auto inductive fountain and other interactive functions.(4) By releasing the system, this thesis achieves the exploitation of exploring system with character.The exploitation and realization of the virtual scene exploring system allow the users to appreciate the magnificent buildings and beautiful landscapes in virtual scene. Meanwhile, the introduction of virtual character improves the participation of users and enhances their sense of reality and immersion.
