Multi-input Multi-output(MIMO) radar is a new type radar system which applies multiple-input multiple-output technique to radar. This kind of radar detects the whole space by transmitting orthogonal waveforms and processing radar echo signals with matched filtering and digital beam forming.Airborne radar has advantages to detect ground targets, and using MIMO radar technology will have better performance for the detection of ground moving target. In this thesis, a thorough research of airborne MIMO radar waveform design and moving target detection are provided on the base of analyzing characteristics of airborne MIMO radar. Then waveform design method is presented, and its detection performance is analyzed by moving target detection technology. The main contents are as follows:1. Aiming at the problem that the value of Hybrid-LFM Signal frequency modulation slope are positive, MMFS signal model is presented, which has a broader variation range of frequency modulation slope.2. Aiming at the problems of orthogonality and Doppler tolerance of airborne MIMO radar waveform design, MMFS signal optimization method is presented. After optimizing, MMFS signal has better orthogonality, lower autocorrelation sidelobe peak and Doppler sensitivity than Hybrid-LFM signal.3. The modeling of airborne MIMO radar clutter and the processing flow of airborne MIMO radar signal are studied, then giving mathematical formulas of the whole treatment process. Finally, we use MTD method to process echo signal according to the characteristics of MIMO airborne radar system and anlyze the detection performance of MMFS waveform.4. Establishing the simulation system of airborne MIMO radar with three major functions, including generation of waveforms, simulation of clutter and detection of moving target. Then giving a realizing structure of system, layout of GUI interface and data processing flow. Finally, the simulation data verifies the advantages of MMFS waveform on orthogonality and Doppler tolerance and the adaptability for airborne MIMO radar system.
