| With the promotion and popularization of digital TV technology, people are no longer satisfied with the functionality of existing common set-top box. On the other hand, the network technology develops very quickly. Triple play is becoming a trend. How to design a novel function set-top box, which can also adapt to the needs of social development, is a very worthy subject of study. The main content of this paper is an attempt in this topic.This paper firstly introduced some of the key technologies which were widely used in current digital TV set-top boxes, and detailedly discussed the source and scope of these technologies. Then it analyzed the requirement of set-top box system comprehensively and in depth. After that, it described the STB system respectively from the aspects of the hardware design and software design. And then, the paper describes the design and implementation of a set-top box that can receive SMS. This kind of set-top boxes can cleverly connect both the television network and telecommunications network used by mobile phones, so that messages sent by mobile phones can successfully reach the set-top box through mail system in the headend, and be displayed on screen by the OSD module of the set-top box. In addition, user can also send some hot news and other data to the set-top box. Through this kind of set-top boxes, without an internet connection, user can get the current social news. When developing the system, we followed the waterfall model of software engineering to manage our process, and used the structured and object-oriented programming methodology to ensure the successful completion of the entire project.Finally, the development process of the entire project was reviewed and summarized. |
