Design And Development Of EMTA Test Software System

Many cable operators offer their own VoIP service, based on PacketCable. PacketCable allows multiple system operators(MSOs) to offer both high-speed Internet and VoIP through the same cable transmission system. When using cable operator VoIP, a combined customer premises equipment device known as an embedded multimedia terminal adapter(E-MTA) will often be used. An E-MTA is a cable modem and a VoIP adapter(MTA, multimedia terminal adapter) bundled into a single device.Since it provide communications services, its quality must be guaranteed. Then how to mass produce E-MTA has become a problem. The traditional method uses a large number of instruments for manual testing to ensure product quality in large inefficiencies.The EMTA test systems is designed to change the status quo. This system is designed using object-oriented development methodology, and is implemented using virtual instrumentation technology and LabVIEW programming language from National Instruments. It is providing an unprecedented level of automation to the parallel tests. The EMTA test system mainly includes transmitter test module, receiver test module, telephony test module, LAN test module and certificate programming module.The system has been fully tested in the development stage by functional testing, performance testing and reliability testing. Now, it is on line, the production capacity of E-MTA’s production line was significantly enhanced.
