Food securityis important to assure people’s health and security, and establish a people oriented harmonious society. The circulation of meat and vegetable involves many stages including planting, farming, processing, wholesaling and retailing. However, it is difficult to assure the quality of food in all the above stages. This paper aims at designing and implementing a food traceability system interconnecting information from stages to form a traceability chain. Food security administrator can use the chain to trace the source and destination of food and locate the responsibility of specific persons. Thus, persons can use the system designed and implemented in this paper to supervise the food security in the whole process, and enhance the cooperation of corporations and departments.Internet of things uses contemporary methods to connect devices, such as sensors and controllers, to implement intelligent management, and integrates resources, services and applications to innovate novel applications. This paper designs and implements a food traceability system based on Internet of things. Firstly, this paper introduces the key technologies of constructing the system, such as RFID, IC cards, mobile traceable terminals, and J2EE. Then, this paper analyzes the function requirements according to the requirements of food traceability. On the basis of the above requirement analysis, this paper proposes the design of the system architecture, function module and database. Finally, this paper validates the system by testing.The food traceability system provides a rapid scientific and efficient way for querying the food traceability chain via Internet. The system can improve the efficiency of the food supervision management in purchasing, detecting, wholesaling, distributing and retailing meat and vegetables.
