The blue phase liquid crystal is a new type of liquid crystal with sub-millisecond response time and backlight is not needed during its display, so it is an ideal display material for the next generation’s LCD. On the 2009’s Shanghai FPD (Flat Panel Display)show, Samsung firstly demonstrated the LCD TV with "Blue Phase" technology, and it is still in the development stage. The research on blue phase liquid crystal is mostly about liquid crystal material, the development of blue phase liquid crystal display device is not very mature both at home and abroad. Based on the advantages described above, the blue-phase LCD monitors has a very good prospect and great significance. In this thesis, the blue-phase LCD driving method is designed based on the display principle of blue- phase LCD and the existed many driving methods. Besides, The FPGA-based image acquisition and display equipment is designed for the blue-phase LCD, which makes the image still alive on the LCD when the power is off.This thesis is committed to design FPGA-based image acquisition and processing device to drive the LCD after designing the liquid crystal driving method. The thesis mainly has accomplished the following jobs:Firstly, on the basis of an analysis of the blue-phase liquid crystal display principle, a comparison of various existing blue phase liquid crystal display driving method and the characteristics of the blue-phase liquid crystal used in the system, an accumulated driving method was designed for the blue-phase LCD.Secondly, a computer-based image acquisition and processing system is designed to verify the feasibility of the driving method. The MCU-based LCD driver circuit and the power supply circuit is designed and the PCBs are made out. Opencv-based Windows Application is designed for image acquisition and processing and C program for the MCU to receive image data and drive the LCDThirdly, a FPGA-based image acquisition and processing system is designed. In order to improve system stability and speed, the Schematics and PCBs of the hardware circuit of image acquisition and processing system was designed in this thesis; the core processor is Altera’s EP4CE30F23C6, on which the image acquisition, processing, transmission and other functions can reach.Finally, experiments and analysises are made for the PC-based and FPGA-based image acquisition and processing system respectively.Their hardware and software are debugged together. The experiments show that these two system all can drive the blue phase liquid crystal display staticly. The system based on FPGA can drive the liquid crystal display dynamic images.The image acquisition and processing system designed in this thesis achieved the desired design requirements, and the designed system can drive the liquid crystal display based on the designed driving method. The dynamic display is not too clear so in the next study, the purpose is to improve the algorithm to improve the rate.
