Wireless Mesh Network(Wireless Mesh Network, WMN), also known as "multi-hop" network, which is developed on the basis of mobile Ad-hoc networks. WMN combines the advantages of traditional WLAN and mobile ad-hoc networks. WMN is capable of self-organizing and self-healing, it’s also a high capacity, high speed, Wide coverage of distributed networks. In the wireless campus network, wireless city, tourism and leisure venues, WMN has a broad application prospects. As a major component of wireless Mesh network, the performance of wireless Mesh nodes plays a vital in the whole communication system. Through the research of wireless mesh network protocols and the research and analysis of relevant technology status of domestic and foreign, optimized implementation of the OLSR protocol and designed a wireless mesh nodes based on mt7620 a processor. In the routing protocols, through the research and analysis of OLSR protocol, and combined with the actual situation, we make some correspond improvements of its routing algorithm, then we make a simulation of the improved OLSR protocol through the simulation software NS. The result shows that the throughput and delay had improved significantly, also improved the network utilization. The hardware side, selected the MT7620 A processor to develop the Mesh nodes through the demand for equipment; the software, built OpenWrt system which can compile the Linux environment, and completed the OpenWrt system customization. Then the Mesh node is configuration to access Mesh network as a Mesh node and enables non-Me clients to access MESH network. Finally, we set up a test environment to test the performance of the designed wireless Mesh nodes in single-hop access and overall network performance testing. Test results show that the wireless Mesh nodes achieve the expected functionality, the throughput can reach 76 Mbps and the response time is 28 ms or less, and the formation of the whole system is stable, the network runs well.
