A Study On Agglomeration And Economic Growth、Regional Disparity

In the world’s economic history, agglomeration is a common phenomenon.Agglomeration, mainly includes industry, capital and population, plays an importantrole in shaping the urban internal, upgrading urban system and rising of urbanagglomerations in the world. However, the spatial agglomeration of economic activity,non-equalization of economic growth and the expansion of regional disparity tend togo together. With the development of our country’s reform and opening, Greatchanges have taken place in the regional space pattern of China. With rapid growth ofthe eastern china’s agglomeration, the economic growth accelerates, while theagglomeration and the economic growth of the western china go slow. Therefore, thestudy on the relationship of agglomeration, economic growth and regional disparityis essential to economic growth of China.This article attempts to change the traditional perspective of the economics ofagglomeration and economic growth, the space of the agglomeration factor isintroduced into the general equilibrium analysis framework, to explore theagglomeration and regional disparity behind the deep mechanism. Based on the modelof the new economic geography and the endogenous economic growth theory, itestablishes an equilibrium analysis framework contains four departments to discussthe relationship between agglomeration and economic growth and regional disparity,and provides the related empirical validation.First of all, this paper builds a microcosmic analysis framework, which containsagricultural sector, manufacturing sector, intermediate products sector and innovationsector, to prove the circular causality relation of economic agglomeration and regionaleconomic growth. In this model, economic growth is caused by the increase of thenumber of the intermediate products. The conclusion can be obtained: theagglomeration and economic growth promote each other, Agglomeration promoteseconomic growth, at the same time it can also cause inequality of center and thesurrounding area, intensify regional disparities.Secondly, this paper analyzes the influence factors of urban agglomeration, theconcept of agglomeration and measure were summarized. Then the comprehensive measure model of urban agglomeration is given. Evidence from three urbanagglomerations of western china---chengyu urban agglomeration, guanzhong urbanagglomeration, lanbaixi urban agglomeration, Model assumes that the urbanagglomeration is a comprehensive index, which is calculated by industry, space andtraffic agglomeration degrees according to certain importance weight. We obtain allaspects of the agglomeration situation in the three urban agglomerations and thepresent situation of the comprehensive agglomeration.Finally, on the basis of the urban agglomeration degree, this paper uses1999-2009panel data to study the relationship of agglomeration, economic growthand regional disparity in the three urban agglomeration of western china, it isconcluded that the agglomeration and economic growth and regional disparity havethe characteristics of the nonlinear relationship. Agglomeration promotes economicgrowth as well as widening regional disparities. Finally the article gives the relevantpolicy recommendations.
