But the continuous decrease of consumption rate and increase ofsaving rate have become the important role in encumbering the economic to maintainits sustainability of high rate of growth and the upgrading of industrial structure. Thisdissertation focuses on the problem of saving and consumption of urban citizens fromtwo different prospects.Firstly, based on the2009household survey in rural China, this paper focuses onthe effects that sex structure of unmarried children acts on rural household savingbehavior. The results reveal that:(1) Sex structure of0-14years old children has nosignificant impact on household saving rate, the ratio of15-24years old unmarrieddaughters accounted for the number of children of the same age has a significantnegative correlation with household saving rate, reversely, the ratio of15-24years oldunmarried sons accounted for the same number of children has a significant positivecorrelation with household saving rate.(2) The impact of children’s marriage onlow-income families is greater than on high-income families.(3) Regional sex ratioimbalance significantly improves saving rate of household with15-24years oldunmarried sons; on the contrary, it significantly reduces saving rate of household withunmarried daughters of the same age. This study contributes to an understanding ofthe effects of children’s sex structure on rural household saving behavior. Based onabove solution,this paper suggests to decrease the sex ratio, change the marriagetradition and increase social security in rural areas.Secondly, we use the2009Urban Household Survey data of six provinces andthe municipality to investigate the gender differences in household consumptiondecisions.
