| Along with the membership of WTO, the comprehensive opening of Chinese bankingindustry, the orderly enforcement of the internationalization of RMB, Chinese commercial bankshave been faced with intense challenges. How to realize international operation under thebackground of globalization has become an inevitable choice for them.Starting by analyzing the degree of Chinese banks’ internationalization and their efficiencies, this paper focused on how to improve efficiency by internationalization. After reviewing relatedtheories, this paper firstly constructed a theoretical framework by depicting the dual-nature ofbanking internationalization and an implementation mechanism through which internationalizationwill improve efficiency. Then this paper takes16commercial banks’ financial data ranging from2007to2012as a sample to evaluate each bank’s efficiencies. To solve the inconsistent problemwhen choosing input and output variables, this paper adopt a DRF-DEA method, joined withclustering analysis. The final section shifted the research perspective to the relationship of the twoparties by using a Tobit model of panel data. The main conclusions are as follows:1st, In the respect of efficiency, this paper shows that despite the relatively low region atwhich the efficiency are maintaining, an apparent upward tendency can be detected. And the six-major banks have been casted into the shade by other banks when CRS and SCA are concerned. But TE has performed differently. This result further strengthens the evidence of the technologyimprovement by internationalization.2nd, In accordance with the three-stage theory under S curve. The result of Tobit modelshowed the inability of significant efficiency improvement caused by internationalization. At thesame time, all foreign variables have little effect on SCA, which tells that it’s hard for early-startedinternational enterprises to realize scale economy. With above empirical conclusions and the three-stage theory, this paper suggest tobreakthrough the threshold to improve efficiency. |
