At present, China is at the fast development of industrialization and urbanizationperiod, the insufficient supply of resources, serious shortage of energy, and increasingpressure on the environment has become a key factor restricting China’smodernization. Resource conservation and environmental protection has become afundamental requirement for achieving sustainable development. With the purpose of"Beautiful China" and “five-in-one” which is building of an ecological civilizationbrought up by the18th national congress of the communist party of China. Theconstruction of an ecological civilization became the inevitable choice and innovationinitiatives for the development path of socialism with Chinese characteristics.Based on this background, this article studied environmental issues of China’spharmaceutical industry. The article mainly covered two aspects: First, the system ofpharmaceutical industry environmental protection; second, the system andcircumstances of listed pharmaceutical companies’ environmental disclosures. Theperspective of the study mainly focuses on the comparison between China and foreigncountries, by referring to the United States, European Union, Japan, and otherdeveloped countries in terms of the two aspects mentioned above. To examine thecurrent situation of China, in order to identify the gaps, summarize the statusconditions and suitable solution for the development of China’s industry; put forwardsuggestions for the completion of China’s pharmaceutical industry, environmentalprotection, and disclosure system of listed pharmaceutical companies. Moreover, theresearch methods in the article include the literature research, comparative analysis,and synthesis induction.The article is divided into four chapters: the first chapter is introduction; it primarilyelaborated on the background of the article as well as the significance and status ofthe study. The second chapter discussed the reference significance of foreignpharmaceutical company’s environmental systems to China. It introduced the advanced environmental systems and policies of pharmaceutical companies indeveloped countries, and compared them with China’s pharmaceutical enterprises andenvironmental systems, in order to identify the gaps and bring up recommendationsfor the improvement of pharmaceutical companies’ environmental protection system.The third chapter focuses on the environmental disclosures of both domestic andforeign listed pharmaceutical companies. It first introduced the current status of listedcompanies’ environmental disclosures systems in domestic as well as developedcountries such as United States, Japan and etc. Then by using the samples from157listed pharmaceutical companies in Shanghai and Shenzhen stock markets, itsystematically analyzed the current situation of domestic pharmaceutical companies’environmental disclosures; followed by a case analysis of environmental disclosuresto3of Fortune500listed foreign pharmaceutical companies. Furthermore, bycomparison, both domestics and internationals, the study brought up a proposal forfurther improvement and suggestions in term of environmental disclosure of listedpharmaceutical companies. In the end, the fourth chapter is the conclusion of thearticle; it summarized study result and discussion.
