Chen Hansheng Rural Economic Thought Research

Chen Hansheng，as a China’s early marxist economists，first to be guided byMarxist theory, researched on China’s agriculture，famer，and rural problems andpromoted the sinicization of Marxist economics. In1920s and1930s· organization ofChina Rural Survey, Chen Hansheng was the first to open China rural investigation,he masterd large rich of first-hand information about rural investigation.He alsofounded China Association of Rural Economy and the publication of rural Chinaμ.He provided the occasion and the media to discuss agriculture，famer，and rural issues;judged the social nature of China’s rural areas scientifically, and provided theorentical support to recognize rural problem correctly for Communist Party of China.In the research of China rural economic problems, Chen Hansheng broke thetraditional of centering on the productivity, embraced rural relations of production,and used the class analysis method, divided modern China farmers ingredientsreasonably. Through strong investigation data and rigorous reasoning, hedemonstrated the social nature of China rural scientifically and organized alarge-scale of survey in rural China. His rigorous attitude of scholarship and the firmfaith of Marx doctrine, affected the participants of rural investigation deeply. Hecultivated a large number of marxist economists in rural survey practice. Because ofthe limits of class and ideological, the economic thoughts of Chen Hanshenginevitably has some limitations, but this does not affect its contribution in the study ofrural economy in China. Pre-liberation Chinese Countrysideμ is compiled into a bookby Chen Hansheng in1985. It includes a total of22works of1920s to1940s of ChenHansheng·s representative ones. These articles are written based on the ruralinvestigation. Through the analysis of these articles, we have enough to see Chenhansheng’s rural economy thoughts.The main body of this paper consists of four parts to make the research on ruraleconomic thought of Chen Hansheng. The first part is about Chen Hansheng andPre-liberation Chinese Countrysideμ，it briefly introduces Chen Hansheng’s life relevant circumstances and the relevant circumstances about Pre-liberationChinese Countrysideμ. The second part is investigation in the countryside and RuralEconomy Research Association. It analyzes the background of his study on the ruralproblems and the important practice in rural research. The third part is a discussionabout the problems of rural economic development. Through the analysis of ChenHansheng·s representative works recorded in Pre-liberation Chinese Countrysideμ,we can pry about Chen Hansheng·s economy thoughts by focusing on " three rural "and solving "three rural" these two aspects. The fourth part is a summary, through theabove analysis, correctly understanding Chen Hansheng’s economic thought,analyzing the characteristics of Chen Hansheng’s economic thought, we try to have arealistic evaluation of Chen Hansheng’s economic thought. And on this basis, basedon his attention and investigation of rural China, this can serve as a reference for thecurrent rural farmers.
