Study On The Value Evaluation Of The Patent Assets In China

With today’s knowledge-based economy status growing in the world economy,patent assets as a knowledge-based technology, with its novelty, practicality andcreativity, has been attached great importance to the world. At this stage, countries allover the world have their own patent systems and appropriate development strategies,China has also introduced various policies and regulations, so that patent assets couldbetter contribute to the economic activities. The valuation methods of patent assetsmainly include cost approach, market approach and income approach. The incomeapproach is used most of the time in our country. Compared with the other twomethods, using income approach has some difficulty and complexity, which is mainlyreflected in the valuation parameters selection, because different parameters selectedmay make assessment results differ several times.At the moment, the patent assets assessment market of our country is still in theinitial stage. In this kind of situation, how to appraise patent technology, how toascertain the correlative parameter scientifically, in order to make the result of theappraisal more applied and authoritative, and all the problems in the patenttechnology assessment should be solved urgently.In view of the above issues, this paper conducts a comprehensive analysis of thedefinition and characteristics of patent assets firstly. The important features of patentassets different from other real assets is its legal characteristics. Second, this paperexpounds four factors that affect the assessment of patent assets, then conducts acomparative study about different basic theories and assessment methods. Then thispaper uses comprehensive evaluation method to determine the income rate anddiscount rate, in this way, makes the determination of the related parameters morecomprehensive, rational and scientific, also improves the accuracy of patent assetsassessment. Finally, the income approach used in patent assets valuation is discussedcomprehensively, and reasonable proposal of theoretical study of the incomeapproach is provided at the same time.
