China is in a period of accelerated development of urbanization currently. Leading role inthe strength of the city which is a leading regional economic development, directly determine thelevel of regional economic development. With the city growing strength, the continuousexpansion of the city boundaries and influence sphere overlap, leading to increased competitionbetween cities. Clarify the influence sphere will be orderly city’s competition and rationalallocation of resources and to achieve the integration of urban and rural development isimportant.First, evaluate the overall strength of the city in Guangxi by10representative index. Centralcity is divided into three levels. Nanning, Liuzhou is A city. Guilin, Beihai, Fangchenggang,Yulin, Wuzhou, Qinzhou are B city, Laibin, Guigang, Baise, Hezhou, Hechi, Chongzuo are C city.Significant differences can be seen from West to East regions by distribution of three levels city. Two A cities are located in the Central region of Guangxi; B cities are all in the East; West haveno B city, and the number of city are less than in the east.Secondly, with ArcGis spatial analysis techniques, it was calculated the shortest timedistance from the central city in Guangxi based on road network. Hour sphere and equal timedistance range was divided of the central city. Central city one hour sphere covers an area ofmore than45%of Guangxi. Except Baise isolated, the rest of the city one hour sphere coveragehas been together, and showed the distribution grid mesh. It contains four urban corridorr:Xiang-Gui railway urban corridor, Hechi-Yulin urban corridor, Guangxi and Guangdong borderurban corridor, Nanning-Beihai urban corridor. Central city’s one day sphere covering nearly98%of the area in Guangxi. Based on time distance the city’s influence sphere division showedthat significant differences between influence and administrative sphere of cities, the overallwestward shift.Thirdly, according to the minimum time distance and field strength model, city’s influencesphere in Guangxi was divided. Two strongest A city have the largest influence sphere, which farbeyond the sphere of its administrative. In addition, no contain relations between B and C cities, hierarchical relationship is not obvious. But the B city’s influence sphere is greater than the Ccity because it’s strength is stronger. The sphere of the C central city most confined its urbanareas. Compared with the area, disparity is not big with population and GDP between Centralcity’s influence sphere and its administrative sphere. The relationship is largest between thecity’s influence sphere and the city’s overall strength. Secondly, distribution of around the city is also concerned. Scarce around the city, the less competition, the city’s influence sphere is wide,Otherwise, the scope is small.Last, Based on the division of the city’s sphere of influence, for the problems of the urbansystem in Guangxi conducted in-depth analysis. Pointed the uneven distribution of cities andregional differences are significant, city functional positioning is not clear, coordination betweenthe city is lack, administrative divisions is unreasonable. It proposed measures to optimizeGuangxi urban system. Guangxi urban development objective is to continue to strengthen largecity’s central role, to develop small cities, to narrowing the gap between cities and to foster anumber of new cities in scarce urban areas. Building a number of urban agglomeration and urbancorridor and making it drive regional development accelerator.
